Benefits of Prenatal Yoga

Written by Judy Orr, Program Director for Black Rock Yoga

The practice of Prenatal Yoga empowers women to trust in the wisdom of her body.

It offers women a physical experience that will strengthen what needs to strengthen and soften what needs to soften in preparation for birth.

The postures and movements we explore can actually be used in birth to help align the cervix, open the birth canal, strengthen the pelvic floor, bring baby into optimal positioning for birthing, as well as techniques for relaxation and breathing that help a woman relax in between contractions.

Prenatal Yoga class offers an opportunity for expectant moms to meet and connect with other women experiencing pregnancy, to share resources and to enjoy the opportunity to connect in a community of support.

After spending many years practicing different styles of yoga which included Bikram, Vinyasa, Dharma Mittra and Jiva Mukti, she began her journey as a teacher in 2013.  Judy completed Buddhi Power Yoga 200hr Teacher Training Certification with Lyn Kehoe. Her teaching style has blossomed further from attending workshops led by inspirational teachers like Bryan Kest and Tao Porchon Lynch. In 2014, she became certified in Restorative Yoga with Jillian Pransky.

Judy brings to her class humor, energy and lightheartedness. She combines a challenging Vinyasa flow with attention to breath, alignment and yogic philosophy. All while encouraging her students to practice their yoga off their mats and into their everyday lives.
